Vella loved to cook and even after her vision began to fail, she still maintained her own senior apartment until age 94, where she continued to enjoy cooking and spending time with her friends playing card games & Bingo. She also loved to be taken to the casino, to play a few slot games. She was a member of the Optimist Club and retired from Alco Valve (now Emerson Electric).
