Eugenia Kastanakis (nee Tsobanakis)

February 17, 1932 - January 30, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved, mother and grandmother, Eugenia Kastanakis, who passed away on January 30, 2022, at the age of 89.

Pre-deceased by her loving husband, Christos, she will be mourned by her children, George, Antonia (Ralph) and Lia (John). She will be remembered as the loving grandmother to Catherine (Tony), Jennifer, Christopher, Serena Stephanie, and great-grandmother to Katelyn and Lily. She will be sadly missed by her brothers, Lambros (Evangelia), Argyris (Anna) as well as her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born in Chania, Crete, Greece, Eugenia will be remembered as the strong-willed woman who immigrated alone to Canada in 1957, in search of a bright future. Eugenia loved gardening, reading, and cooking and was the happiest when sharing stories and passing on family traditions to her children and grandchildren. Even through hardships and poor health, she remained devoutly religious, and we trust that she will find eternal rest.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on February 9, 2022, and from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on February 10, 2022, at La Maison Darche, 6500 boul. Cousineau, St. Hubert.

Funeral service will directly follow at Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 5220 boul. Grande Allée, St. Hubert, followed by interment at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery.

Due to the existing Covid restrictions in force, there is a limit of 50 people allowed during condolences. If planning to attend, please contact the family in advance to confirm your presence.
