

Barberina SanGiacomo, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished matriarch, entered eternal rest on December 11, 2025. She was born on October 15, 1929, in Joya De Coli, Italy, to the late Samuel DeMattia and Rosa DeMattia.
At just 16 years old, Barberina courageously made her way to the United States through Ellis Island, embarking on a new journey in life filled with faith, perseverance, and love. Deeply proud of her Italian heritage, she embodied the heart and soul of a true Italian wife—warm, devoted, and endlessly giving. Her strong Catholic faith guided her throughout her life and was reflected in her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for family.
Barberina was a homemaker who poured her heart into caring for those she loved. A remarkable cook, she brought family together around the table, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. She loved to travel, especially returning to Italy to be with her family and reconnect with her roots. Her loving heart, gentle demeanor, and caring spirit drew people to her wherever she went.
She was married to her first husband, the late Herbert Goldman, for 15 years. Following his passing, she later found love again and married the late William SanGiacomo. They shared 32 devoted years together until his death. Barberina was also predeceased by her beloved son, Samuel Goldman; brother Franco DeMattia; and sister Anna Petrera.
Barberina leaves behind a lasting legacy of love through her surviving sons, Jerry Goldman (Rose Mary Goldman) and Victor Goldman (Grace Goldman). She is lovingly remembered by her grandsons, Eric Goldman Sr (Tammy Goldman)., and Andrew Goldman; her granddaughter Lilly Learn; her great-grandchildren, Eric Goldman Jr., Stephanie Dunn, and Robert Dixon; and her great-great-grandchildren, Olivia Dunn and Danny Goldman. She is also survived by a host of loving family members and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
A Celebration of Life honoring Barberina SanGiacomo will be held on December 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens St. Johns Funeral Home, located at 1285 St. Johns Parkway, St. Johns, Florida 32259.
Barberina’s life was one of love, faith, and family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
