

Carolyn Marie Neal, age 79 of St. Johns, Florida passed away on July 10, 2025. She was born in Tallapoosa, Georgia to the late Lillie (Williams) and Buford Mauk. Graduating from West Haralson High School, class of 1963 she soon began employment at Sears Roebuck in Atlanta, Georgia where she would meet her future husband. While her children were in school, she worked in the front office of Fort Caroline Elementary as a teacher’s assistant. She later started a long and successful career with Barnett Bank, later Bank of America retiring in 2017 with many close friendships. An avid reader, Carolyn was constantly enjoying time reading her novels. Sometime sitting with a nice book in her backyard, which gave her the opportunity to enjoy her flowers and the many birds that would come for a visit. Carolyn was known for her baking skills and her dishes were the envy of those lucky enough to have the opportunity to taste them. Especially her banana pudding which was a repeated request at many gatherings. The matriarch of the family, Carolyn was a proud wife of a United States Army veteran. A wonderful, caring and supportive wife, mother and grandmother, friend and neighbor, she unselfishly always put others before herself.
Carolyn is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years George “Tom” Neal, sons Richard Ray Neal and Edward Barrett Neal, grandchildren Tatum Marie Neal, Barrett Jene Thomas Neal and Julianne Adair Neal. Sister Eileen McBride, Niece Debbie Ellis Allgaier, Nephew Daniel McBride. Sister-in-law Nancy Anne Neal O’Brien, Niece Stacey Paulsen wife of Peter Paulsen and grandnephews Brady and Mitchell Paulsen. Numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family members and lifelong friends and colleagues.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 10:00 at Hardage-Giddens St. Johns Funeral Home located at 1285 St. Johns Parkway, St Johns, Florida 32259. Interment will be held 12:30 (Lane 1) at the Jacksonville National Cemetery located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
