Eric Alden Peto

Eric Alden Peto, 92, of Saint Johns, Florida, passed away on August 15, 2026. Born March 25, 1934, to the late Frances (Hall) and Eric Peto in Escondido, California, Eric lived a long life marked by steady devotion to others, enduring resilience, and a quiet wisdom that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Eric served six total years in the U.S. Army, carrying into that service the same diligence and sense of responsibility that shaped his life. He was a member of Fruit Cove Baptist Church and the Smokejumpers Association—communities that reflected both steadfast faith and an adventurous spirit, lived with purpose and care.

To family and friends, Eric was deeply beloved for the everyday ways he showed kindness and compassion. He gave generously of himself, met others with thoughtfulness, and offered a gentle humor that could ease a moment while still honoring what mattered. In both ordinary and difficult seasons, his steady perseverance and considerate presence were quietly inspirational.

Eric enjoyed fishing, and he also found pleasure in wire wrapping with jewelry—pastimes well suited to patient hands and an attentive nature.

Eric is preceded in death by his two sons, Greg Peto and Chris Peto.

Eric is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Miriam Peto; his children, Michael Peto (Jessica), Rebecca Grech (David), and Joshua Peto (Misty); his grandchildren, Monica, Nathan, Jocelyn, Hope, Kaitlyn, Grace, and Zachary; his great-grandchildren, Ava, Owen, and Emily; his sister, Ricki Peto; and extended family.

A Committal Service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218, on August 21, 2026, from 9:00 am to 9:30 am.
