

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Fred “Jack” Barnett on October 29th, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. Jack, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. He was 75 years young.
He also leaves a daughter Lisa ( Jason), son Mark ( Rachele) Siblings Mark ( Donetta) Kathleen and a half sister Kathryn. Nieces Tiffany ( John) and Jennifer. He leaves 2 grandsons Kelsey(Elizabeth),Cory( Leila) and 5 great grandchildren.
Born on October 15, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jack’s life was a testament to his unwavering spirit and dedication to family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He was predeceased by his parents, Marion (Butch) and Fred Barnett, his daughter Kristina (Dennis) Sherman, and his grandson Dakota – losses that deeply impacted him but never diminished his spirit.
Jack’s life was marked by significant achievements and unwavering commitment. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped his character and instilled in him a profound sense of duty and honor. His career in the aviation industry reflected his lifelong fascination with flight and mechanics, a passion he pursued with characteristic enthusiasm.
Beyond his professional life, Jack found joy in simple pleasures. He treasured his travels with his beloved wife, Lynn Marie, their adventures creating lasting memories. He delighted in the meticulous detail of his model train and car collections, and he fiercely supported his beloved Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Red Wings.
For four years, Jack dedicated his time and energy to volunteering at Gateway Community Services, a Jacksonville treatment center. This selfless act epitomizes the compassionate and generous soul he was. His dedication to helping others, even amidst his own health struggles, speaks volumes about his character.
Jack will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for the qualities that defined him: his infectious smile, his quick wit, and his remarkable resilience. Even in the face of significant health challenges, he rarely complained, choosing instead to focus on the love and support of his family and friends.
A military graveside service will be held to honor Jack’s life and service at 1:30 PM on January 17th, 2025, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. We kindly request that guests arrive by 1:00 PM. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, located at 1285 St. Johns Parkway, providing an opportunity to share memories and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests donations be made in Jack's memory to Community Hospice and Palliative Care (donation information is available online) or Gateway Services, 555 Stockton Street. Your generosity will help continue the spirit of giving back that was so important to Jack. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in our hearts.
