

Joseph Larry Blackwood, Sr., age 78, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pensacola, Florida, he was the eldest child of the late Cassie (Bodie) and Joseph David Blackwood. After graduating high school, Larry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as part of the 3D Battalion, 11th Marines. During a shore leave in Hawaii in 1967, he married the love of his life, Donna Hinman. Their marriage, rooted in love and mutual respect, flourished for nearly 60 years.
Following his honorable military service, Larry began a long and dedicated career with the L&N Railroad, eventually retiring from CSX Railroad as a Signal Inspector. His commitment to service continued as a member of the Army National Guard, where he served in the 20th Special Forces Bravo Team stationed in Mobile, Alabama. Larry was a man of adventure and deep appreciation for the outdoors. He found joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He was also a devoted family man, always putting his loved ones first.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Paula Bieber. Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Hinman Blackwood; his children, Joseph Larry Blackwood, Jr. and Darlene Blackwood Lockhart; his brother, Phil Blackwood; his sister, Pam Blackwood Evens; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Evens. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Haley Lockhart Davis, Kendall Blackwood Johnson, Preston Reed Lockhart, Cassie Jo Blackwood, and Logan Wade Lockhart, as well as six great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM (Lane 1) at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
Larry’s legacy of service, strength, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
