Matthew Robert Hamann passed away on May 30, 2026, at the age of 44. He was born on November 3, 1981, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to Ellen Marie (Shimshock) and Kenneth Arthur Hamann. Matthew resided in St Johns, Florida.
After graduating from Michigan State, Matthew and his loving wife of 22 years, Shannon, moved to Florida for better weather and to begin building a life and family together. In the years that followed, he found pure joy in raising their four children; Brady, Jacob, Charlotte and Liam and his steady devotion to them was evident in the time he chose to spend close to home—proudly cheering during the children's sporting events. They enjoyed taking walks together, cooking side by side, and making treasured trips to Disney World whenever the family could. Matthew is also survived by his sisters; Jessica Robrahn (Robert) and Melissa Hamann and nieces and nephews; Dylan, Keri, James, Anna, Jack and Ben, brother-in-laws; Jim Rose (Becky) and Ryan Rose, mother in law Sharon Rose and father in law James.
A faithful member of San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church, Matthew lived with a quiet strength and a gentle, thoughtful presence that brought comfort to those around him. His compassion and generosity were felt not in grand displays, but in the consistent ways he showed up for others—with patience, care, and a sincere willingness to give of himself.
Matthew was hard-working and deeply committed to his profession. He worked as a structural engineer with Haskell for more than 16 years and was proudly honored as Young Engineer of the Year in 2017, a recognition that reflected both his talent and dedication. Most recently, he was proud to be part of the team at Baker Design Build.
He was a devoted sports fan. Matthew cheered faithfully for the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings, Lions, and—most importantly—Michigan State Football and a basketball. His loyalty, enthusiasm, and the warmth he brought to shared moments made him deeply beloved. In countless quiet ways, he was inspirational to those who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and steadfast care.
