Phyllis Marie Clark Meyers, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 7th, 2023.
Phyllis was born April 27, 1933 in Lansing, MI. Daughter of John and Margaret Allen and sister of (Mary) Virginia Dyke and (Mary) Kathleen Platte. She married Richard J. Clark in 1952 and had 5 children, Cynthia Drago, Julie Berry, Mary Marshall, Susan Agnew and Jeffrey Clark. She had six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. After Richard’s death, she married Robert Meyers in 1992.
Phyllis was born in the aftermath of the great depression and those lessons of frugality stayed with her throughout her life. She was an incredible seamstress from early on, winning several sewing awards at a very young age. She made almost all of her children’s clothes along with very difficult items like curtains and giant pillows. Her sewing prowess was so impressive, she made her daughter’s wedding dresses (satin/sequin) and most of the bridesmaid dresses for their weddings (they were spectacular). Her talent was incredible. She also made the best homemade strawberry jam, bread and butter pickles and of course the most decadent cinnamon rolls for the holidays. She loved music, her favorites were classical and traditional church hymns. She played the organ that Richard made from a Heathkit kit. Phyllis was a member of the Ann Arbor St. Thomas Choir for many years, served on the St. Thomas School Board and retired from the University of Michigan Business School. Phyllis was a huge contributor to St. Thomas functions as well. She contributed her talents and sewed costumes for various functions but especially for the Vaudeville to Video productions where she also performed. She was also a fierce competitor on any putt-putt golf course (she usually won).
Phyllis loved her 90th birthday party this past April. She was surrounded with love and laughter of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her five children and their spouses Cynthia (Martin), Julie (James), Mary (Eric), Susan (Douglas) and Jeffrey; six grandchildren Brian, Kimberly (Nick), Kevin, Kristin, Stephen (Kay Leigh), Kalen; seven great grandchildren: Aven, Cameron, Ryne, Addison, Addelynn Mae, Madden and Andrew.
The family would like to thank Harbor Chase-Mandarin nurses and staff especially Caregiver Linda for her kindness, dedication and healing touch and also for keeping our mother in check. Thank you also to all of the Hospice nurses and staff who cared so incredibly for her. We appreciate all you do.
