Born on October 3, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York, Richard was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Scialabba) Brown. He was a graduate of Deer Park High School on Long Island.
In his early years, Richard pursued his passion for aviation as a pilot and flew professionally for East Hampton Air. He maintained a lifelong love of flying and was always happiest in the cockpit. He also enjoyed boating on the Great South Bay and spending time on the water.
Richard built a long career with Ferrellgas (Blue Rhino), where he held a variety of positions over the years, ultimately serving as a district manager. He took great pride in his work and in supporting his customers, and he often spoke fondly of the strong relationships he built with his drivers, colleagues, and customers throughout his career.
Above all, Richard cherished his two daughters, Alexa and Jenna. A proud “dance dad,” he rarely missed a recital or competition and loved cheering them on. He enjoyed traveling with his family and especially treasured a cruise that became a meaningful milestone in Jenna’s life when she became connected to her future husband, Jacob—something Richard was immensely proud of. He valued being present for life’s important moments, including his daughters’ graduations, Jenna’s wedding, and time spent with his beloved grandson, Jace. After moving to Florida, he made a point to visit his daughters whenever they were nearby, often insisting on meeting for dinner and spending time together.
Richard will be deeply missed by his twin daughters, Alexa Brown and her fiancé, Andrew Loin, of Westfield, Massachusetts, and Jenna Fletcher and her husband, Jacob, of Haysi, Virginia; his brother, Robert Brown and his wife, Joan, of Bensalem, Pennsylvania; his sister, Margaret Brown Horowitz of St. Johns, Florida; his cherished grandson, Jace Fletcher, of Haysi, Virginia; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at a later date.
