Sharon Drane, beloved daughter, friend, and artist, passed away peacefully on August 9th , 2025 in Jacksonville, Florida. A vibrant spirit with a keen wit and deep compassion, Sharon left an indelible mark on every community she touched throughout her rich and meaningful life.
Sharon spent her early childhood in Miami, Florida, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, during her preteen years. Her family eventually settled in Garland, Texas, where she graduated from high school. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Austin College and later achieved a master’s degree from North Texas State University, a testament to her lifelong love of learning.
Sharon dedicated most of her professional life to public service with the State of Texas. She began her career as a social worker, where her empathy and drive to help others were felt by many. Later, she transitioned into the procurement field, where her diligence and integrity earned her the respect of her colleagues. After retiring, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, to care for her aging father — a reflection of her steadfast devotion to family.
Outside of her career, Sharon lived life to the fullest. A devoted football fan, she passionately cheered on the University of Texas Longhorns and her beloved Dallas Cowboys. She also had a particular fondness for cruising the Texas roads in her Ford Mustang, music up, spirit high.
A woman of many talents, Sharon was affectionately known for her kazooing prowess — a humorous gift she shared generously — but her artistry extended far beyond. She was an accomplished singer, actress, producer, and author. Deeply involved in Texas community theater, Sharon’s fondest memories were of the joy, laughter, and connection she experienced onstage and backstage with her fellow performers and audiences.
Upon moving to Jacksonville, Sharon embraced a new creative path as a writer. She authored three novels and a novella in her Regency Romance series, Touch the Sky. Titles in the series include Swept Away, Touch the Sky, and His Wicked Lady. Her novel Swept Away was honored with the 2015 Ancient City Romance Authors Readers’ Choice Award in the Historical category — a proud achievement that reflected her dedication to her craft.
Sharon also leaves behind a treasure trove of humorous stories and memories, including her time as a college student working summers at the Kraft Foods plant in Garland, Texas. Though she was not a fan of the 6:00 AM shifts or the frumpy uniforms, she never turned down a good paycheck — or a good story.
Sharon is survived by her brother, Melvin E. Drane III; her sister-in-law, Peggy Drane; her niece, Tracy Provenzano; and her great-nephews, Paul Edward and Christopher Provenzano.
Those who knew Sharon will remember her for her sharp sense of humor, creative soul, and generous heart. She inspired others to laugh loudly, dream boldly, and live authentically.
Sharon’s light will be deeply missed but warmly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery on Thursday, August 14th at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sharon’s remarkable life.
