William Lapes

William Lapes, age 79 of Orange County, California, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Saint Augustine, Florida. He was born to the late Jean (Arnold) and Milton Lapes in Los Angeles, California. His family later moved to Manhattan Beach, California where he spent his childhood and high school years. As a child he enjoyed many sports but was most proud of his football accomplishments. Living in Manhattan Beach, Bill gained a love for the ocean which later led to many deep-sea fishing adventures. After high school he joined the Airforce and later began his career in sporting goods sales and owning businesses. Bill had a passion for coaching and took pride in his coaching years. Even up until his passing, he was known as “Coach” by his nurses, doctors, players and friends. Bill had a love for food. When he was entering hospice care his bucket list wishes were getting ice cream cones and enjoying double doubles from his favorite “hamburger stands.”

Bill is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Susan Lapes, her daughters, his children Allan Steven Williams, Chad (Christa) Lapes, Adam (Katie) Lapes, Noelle (Marcel) Dera and Jessica Wingard, along with 13 grandchildren, extended family and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 at 2:30 pm (Lane 2) at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218 . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Every Kid Sports at https://everykidsports.org/ or American Cancer Society Donation - American Cancer Society®
