TUCKER, Betty Jane (nee Elder) on Monday, November 19, 2018. Beloved wife of Robert L. Tucker, loving mother of Debbie (Dave) Ellerington, Ronald (Cheryl) Tucker, and the late Jim R. Tucker; dear grandmother of Eiden (Seth) Hughes, Kyela (Mike) Raben, Sajan (Ian) Bastres, Tanner Tucker, Jack Tucker, and Amanda (Mike) Tucker-Aponte; great grandmother of Cooper and Delaney Raben; dear sister of the late Ruth Elder and Lee Elder.

Betty was born on August 22, 1930 in Ottawa, KS. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1948 and attended Ottawa University. She then met the love of her life, Bob, and they married on her 23rd birthday, August 22, 1953. They moved to Manhattan, KS so Bob could finish college at Kansas State. After Bob graduated, they moved to St. Louis, then Chicago, and back to St. Louis where they resided for the past 51 years.

Betty was an active member with Salem United Methodist Church in Ladue for over 50 years. In addition to being highly devoted to the United Methodist Women’s group, her service to Christ reached others as she volunteered in the Wishing Well gift shop at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

She appreciated the arts around St. Louis, as she and Bob enjoyed outings to The Muny, The Fabulous Fox Theatre, and Stages St. Louis. Betty enjoyed all her travels, especially to Florida in the winter time visiting friends. In her hours of solitude, she enjoyed reading and playing the piano.

Family was her biggest love. She was devoted to the daily activities of supporting Bob and her children. Cooking was tops on her list, especially the holiday dinners when she would cook the big meals and set a beautiful table with her finest antique crystal and china. The table was often garnished with beautiful roses grown in the backyard rose garden.

Friday night happy hours in the living room at home with Bob and the occasional guests, highlighted her weeks. Early on, discussions would center around plans and dreams for the future, and as life went along, the dialog changed to reminiscing about their wonderful life together.
