Deloris was born on July 9, 1937 in Sycamore, Illinois, to Dennis Edward Buffington and Hattie Bell (Johnson). Dee was preceded in death by parents, husband James “Jim” Humphrey, daughter Rhonda Rivers, and nine siblings.
Dee is survived by her children: Daniel Rivers, of Janesville, WI, Susan (Marty) Taschek of Asheville, NC, Cheryl Fringer (Jeff Miskie) of Lake Geneva, WI: two grandchildren: Josh Zinnecker of Scottsdale, AZ and beloved grandson who she and Jim raised Daniel (Courtney) Rivers, Jr. of Jefferson City, MO, great-granddaughters: Olivia and Camille Rivers.
Growing up in Illinois Dee enjoyed spending time on the family farm with her many siblings. She graduated from Sycamore high school. She went on to run a girl scout camp and owned gift shops. Dee and Jim loved being on the water. They owned Jim Humphreys Marina on Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. They later retired and lived on Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas and Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Dee was a great cook and notorious for her wonderful baking skills. Dee also loved to read books daily. She was known to be a strongly independent person and would never hesitate to compliment a stranger. It is fairly certain that there were many people whose day was brightened by her friendly acknowledgments. Dee will be greatly missed.
A private family memorial service is planned for a later date.
