Jerome Vincent Hummel, age 19, of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on Thursday, November 30, 1950 while serving in the United States Army in the Korean War. Jerome was born December 1, 1930 in Saint Louis, Missouri, beloved son of the late Norbert and Loretta (nee Ray) Hummel.
Jerry was the brother of Leonard Hummel, Annette Heindenreich, Sharon Board and the late Edward Hummel. He was an uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend.
Serving as a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, Jerry was reported missing in action on November 30, 1950 near the Chosin Reservoir when enemy forces attacked his unit. Following the battle, his remains could not be recovered. In June 2018, North Korea turned over to the United States 55 boxes of possible remains recovered from unmarked graves. After extensive forensic and genetic testing, some remains of Cpl Jerome V. Hummel were recovered and being returned to Saint Louis for burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Burial with Military Honors 10:30 am Thursday, September 17, 2020 in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri 63125.
