Joe E. Tighe, age 76, of St. Louis, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Christmas Day, December 25, 2015, with the special brilliance of a Christmas full cold moon illuminating his path to eternal rest.
Joe was the husband of Joyce G. Tighe, nee Carroll, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother Mae Halbrook; daughters Joanne (Larry) Herzog and Carol (Steve Perks) Tighe; grandchildren Sheena Herzog Snead and Hannah and Heather Hart; a great-grandchild Ella “Ella Bella Lady Bug” Snead; and a sister Eva (Charlie Cantage) Stelling. Joe was preceded in death by his father Charles Tighe and two brothers, Charles and Daryl Tighe.
Joe was well-rounded in his activities and interest as a nature lover and history buff. He was known as the Roseman of Affton for his beautiful rose garden and lawn. Joe also grew the best damn tomatoes you ever ate. Many fish were caught through the years, and he loved to camp on the beach in Florida with his wife. Joe was a member and Elder at Affton Presbyterian Church, a U.S. Army Veteran and train enthusiast. He was a devoted, loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Mo. 63125. A time for stories and memories will start at 7:30 p.m. for those who wish to say a few words about Joe. Interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date in Mount Hope Cemetery.
