Meis, Joseph C. Sr. On July 19, 2014. Beloved husband of the late MaryLou Meis (nee Hilpert). Dear father of Joe (Gail) Meis Jr., Brenda (David) Meyer, and Don (Chris) Meis, dear Grandfather of Kyle and Stefanie Kopsie, Steven and Nicole Meis, dear great grandfather of Olivia; beloved brother of Karl Meis and the late David Meis; dear brother-in-law of Jeri Meis and Jeanine Meis, uncle and friend to many.
Joe was a man first and foremost of great Faith. He was currently a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and previously a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a communications worker for AT&T and retired after 42 years of service. Joe spent some of his free time travelling with his beloved wife of 47 years in any one of the many Airstream Travel Trailers they owned. Later in life he enjoyed travelling with his three children.
His passion for Shooting Sports was unmistakable. It is a passion he instilled in his children and grandchildren. Joe was an active member of the Arnold Rifle and Pistol Club for over 20 years. He was the “Founding Father” of the club’s youth trap shooting program. Joe was instrumental in providing the direction for the team Coaches to be trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO and become certified Shotgun Coaches. The clubs youth teams have taken several National and State Titles.
Joe went on to transform the club trap range, was instrumental in obtaining donated material and raised funds to cover construction costs. On June 1st, 2014, in recognition for all of Joe’s accomplishments and contributions, the trap field at ARPC was formally named “Joe Meis Trap Fields”. Joe was a dear friend to many. He was a big man with a big heart-a Gentle Giant.
Services: Funeral from Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Rd, on Mon. July 28 at 9:30 am to St. Mark Catholic Church, 8310 Morganford Rd. for Mass at 10 a.m. Interment Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Visitation on Sunday 2-6. In memory of Joe memorial contributions are encouraged to: Arnold Junior Shooters, 1025 Brownell Ave., St. Louis, MO 63122.
