Mary Lena Curry Edwards

EDWARDS, Mary Lena (nee Curry) 89, of Lemay, MO, at rest with Jesus on March 4, 2014. Wife of the late William R. Edwards Sr.; beloved mother of William R. (Shirley) Edwards Jr. and Michael P. (Joyce) Edwards; loving grandmother of William Joseph (Betsy) Edwards and Robert Paul (Terry) Edwards; dear great-grandmother of William Robert Edwards, Robert Riley Edwards, and Dylan Joseph Edwards; loving sister of Felbert (Janie) Curry, the late Delbert Curry, the late Lella Hutson and the late Ruby Wilburn; dear aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Mary grew up in Tennessee working in the cotton fields. At sixteen she moved to Saint Louis to find work and supported the war effort by working in the small arms plant making ammunition. During this time she met her husband to be William R. Edwards Sr. He lived in the same apartment complex and was a veteran of the war. They were married on December 10, 1943. Later she worked at Bemis Bag. After working for many years at Otten Screw Company she retired and spent more time indulging in her passions gardening, knitting and crocheting. Having not graduated from high school, a proud accomplishment for Mary was obtaining her GED after her retirement.

Mary was a strong Christian and devoted mother. While timid she was independent and resourceful. She lived on her own until very recently when her health took a turn and passed away peacefully. She will be missed by all who knew her but especially by her family. May she rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment private. If desired contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements under the direction of Hoffmeister South County Chapel, Saint Louis, MO.
