Michael is survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife Mercedes M Martinez; father Miguel Martinez and mother Delphina Martinez; sisters Ann (Joseph) Suarez, Stella (Joseph) Naves, Edna (Mello) Gianino and brother William (Fern) Martinez.
Michael was born in Saint Louis but very proud of his Spanish heritage as a first generation American. He proudly served his Country in the Army during World War II. He was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge and other engagements in the War. Following the War Michael came back to Saint Louis and was an active member of American Legion Frank Diaz Memorial Post 514.
Growing up in Saint Louis Michael and his family were long time members of the Spanish Society. He was also a huge fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals and the Saint Louis Blues.
A visitation for Michael will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 670 S Laclede Station Rd,, Shrewsbury, Missouri 63119. The mass of the resurrection will follow in the church at 11:00 AM. A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri 63125 following the funeral.
