A native and resident of Parks, Mr. Champagne passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2021 at his residence surrounded by loving family.
Born on November 22, 1936 to the late Sandes and Lucy Champagne, Shirles was one of seven children. Better known as “Champ” by family and friends, he was a kind and easygoing gentleman who enjoyed the simple life. Champ liked being outdoors – hunting, crawfishing, and tending to his vegetable gardens. When not at home taking care of the yard, he and his wife, Sadia, could often be found at their camp in Butte La Rose or in the camper. He also proudly served his country in the National Guard for 9 years before being honorably discharged. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother, and friend to all, Champ will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sadia Trosclair Champagne; children, Arlene Champagne, Johnny Champagne (Roxanna), and Ellen Taylor (Paul); grandchildren, Nicholas Simon and Maci Gravouilla; great grandchildren, Jacob Simon and Leah Simon; and siblings, Willis Champagne (Judy), Janelle Theriot (Carol), and Nancy Latiolais (Randolph).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sandes and Lucy Champagne; brothers, Carol Champagne and Robert Champagne; and sister, Rita C. Bonin.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Champagne, Paul Taylor, Nicholas Simon, Jacob Simon, Rene Champagne, and Willis Champagne.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Carol Theriot.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hospice Compassus, especially to nurses Angela, Kaleb, and Skylar, for their kindness, compassion, and care of Mr. Champagne during his time in need.
