Dorothy “Dottie” Halber passed away peacefully on August 26, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Rose (Salett) and George Feldman. Dottie was a graduate of Newton High School and Boston University.
She began her professional life as a teacher and went on to enjoy a varied and fulfilling career in several different fields. She ultimately found a special place at Temple Shalom in Salem, where she spent many years as an administrative assistant and became a valued part of the temple community.
Dottie shared a wonderful life with her beloved husband and tennis partner, Norton Halber, who predeceased her. Together, they shared a love of tennis and many wonderful years with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Jodie Titus, and her husband, Cal, and their two children, Rachel and Zach. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Annette Feldman, wife of her late brother, Sumner, as well as her loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Leona Curhan and Harriette Blackman, and Harriette’s husband, Mickey.
Dottie loved her tennis and the friendships she made both on and off the court. In her later years, you could often find her enjoying a game of Mahjong at the senior center, where she loved the friendship and fun around the table. But above all, Dottie will be remembered for her kindness, her generous heart, and the deep love she had for her family. Her family was truly the center of her world, and the love she gave so freely will be her lasting legacy.
