Edward P. Knopf of Swampscott, MA, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He had just celebrated his milestone 80th birthday. Eddie’s legacy of patience, kindness, and resilience will live on in all the lives he touched. Above all, he treasured his family and friendships.
Known affectionately as Eddie, he was born and raised in Brockton, MA, the son of the late Sylvia and Sigmund (Siggy) Knopf. He graduated from Lowell Tech (now UMass Lowell) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later earned his MBA from Boston University. Eddie began his career as an engineer at Raytheon and went on to own and operate a printing franchise for many years. In the later chapter of his professional life, Eddie took on a variety of meaningful roles, including managing claims in the aftermath of the BP oil spill in Louisiana.
Eddie had a generous spirit and was always eager to lend a hand. He served on the B'reishet Committee during the union of Temple Beth El and Temple Israel into Congregation Shirat Hayam, where he remained a dedicated member of the “Minyanaires” since 2007. He served as past president of the Rotary Clubs of Chelsea and Boston, as well as the New England Sir Speedy Owners Association.
Eddie will be remembered for his exceptional cooking, which served as his love language—especially to those going through difficult times. He was passionate about politics, musical theater and woodworking. He and Diane cherished their travels together, embracing adventures both before and after the pandemic.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 36 years, Diane Miller Knopf; his beloved daughter, Elyse Propis (Sam); his adored grandson, Emmett; his brother, David (Judy); his brother-in-law, Peter Miller, many cousins, a nephew, and a wide circle of dear friends from his hometown of Brockton to his many years on the north shore, his travels, and his many community connections.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, at 11:00 AM at Congregation Shirat Hayam (55 Atlantic Avenue, Swampscott), with a livestream available. Interment will immediately follow at the Temple Israel section of the Shirat Hayam Cemetery (506 Lowell Street, Peabody). Following the interment, a meal of consolation will be held at Congregation Shirat Hayam. Memorial observance will continue at the family home on Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm, and on Friday from 1:00 to 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eddie’s memory may be made to Congregation Shirat Hayam (55 Atlantic Avenue, Swampscott, MA 01907), Epstein Hillel School (6 Community Road, Marblehead, MA 01945), Jewish Community Center of the North Shore (4 Community Road, Marblehead, MA 01945), or the Jewish Journal of Greater Boston (P.O.
