Evelyn Rebecca (Cohen) Rieder of Marblehead, MA, died peacefully at home after a long illness on December 21, 2018 surrounded by her family at the age of 98. She was the beloved wife of Sidney V. Rieder for over 69 years who died on April 18, 2018. Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 25, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Meyer Cohen and Ida (Polonsky) Cohen.
Born exactly one week after women gained the right to vote, Evelyn was disappointed not to live to see a woman elected President of the United States almost a century later. Experiencing the struggles for gender equality both in and out of the workplace, she successfully went on to find her calling as an accomplished financial investor until dementia precluded her abilities.
She is predeceased by her daughter Sandra A. Rieder and survived by her sons Steven M. Rieder of Burlington, MA, Ronald J. Rieder and his partner Martha Miller of Andover, MA, and brother Bernard Cohen of Delray, FL. She is also predeceased by her brother Irving I Cohen.
Evelyn Rieder’s remains will be interred at Waterside Cemetery Marblehead, MA with those of her husband, Sidney. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17 Chicago, IL 60601. (www.alz.org) Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin Street, Salem, MA 01970 had the honor of caring for Evelyn.
