

Fred W. Schwartz, of Stoneham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on May 5, 2026, at the VA hospital in Bedford Massachusetts. Born on March 18, 1948, to Adele (Marmerstein) and Harold Schwartz, Fred grew up in Hicksville, New York, alongside his sister Eileen Schwartz. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, his nephew, Michael and his beloved wife Corinne Funderburg, who passed on October 17, 2025.
Fred moved to Boston to attend Northeastern University, a decision that shaped the course of his life. While in Massachusetts, he met his first wife, Susan, and together they raised their two children, Jill and Peter in Randolph, MA. Fred was a steady, loving father whose quiet humor, patience, and reliability anchored his family.
Fred eventually relocated to Delray Beach, Florida, where he devoted himself to caring for his ailing mother—a reflection of his deep sense of responsibility and compassion. In 2007, he returned to Massachusetts, and made Stoneham his home. In August 2012, he married Corinne, with whom he shared companionship, laughter, and love for road trips and trying new restaurants.
Fred is survived by his children, Jill Schwartz and her husband Jonathan Titone of Cohasset MA, and Peter Schwartz and his wife Amy Schwartz of Stoneham MA. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to four grandchildren who lit up his world: Benjamin (15), Alexander (12), Addison (10), and Hunter (14). Whether cheering at sporting events, attending dance recitals, or simply spending time together, Fred cherished every moment with them. Fred also leaves behind several cousins with whom he shared lifelong bonds with.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cooking, taking trips to Maine and Florida, reconnecting with old friends, learning about his family genealogy , and being present for the milestones and everyday moments of his family. His warmth, loyalty, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Fred was a proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He served his country in the Middle East during Desert Storm and for many years in the Coast Guard Reserves.
Fred’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and the quiet strength he brought to every chapter of his life. He will be remembered for his optimistic outlook and kind heart.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 12:45 PM at Lindenwood Cemetery, Montvale Ave, Stoneham, MA 02180. Immediately following the service, attendees are invited to gather at Polcari’s, 309 Montvale Ave., Woburn MA
