

Hyman G. Sogoloff, late of Swampscott and Peabody was born Nov. 8. 1912 and died peacefully of natural causes on February 6, 2016 at the remarkable age of 103. He was proud to say that he lived long enough to match his golf score! Hy was the loving husband of the late Ruth (Fine) Sogoloff and father to the late Patricia E. Richmond and her husband Neil of Mays Landing, New Jersey, Hayes Sogoloff and his wife Bonnie of Charlotte, Vermont, and Bruce Sogoloff and his wife Helen Cousins of Williamsburg, VA. He also leaves his special niece Suzan Chatis, his good friend Dorlores Brady, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren of the Sogoloff, Segal, Gross, Chatis, and Richmond families.
Hy was a career shoe salesman until retirement when he owned and operated The Penny Pincher antique store in Marblehead with his wife Ruth. He was especially proud of his WW II military service as a 1st Lt. Army T.C. Hy served as a security officer on the North Atlantic liberty ship convoys, and later was attached to the 4th Port, Cherbourg, France. He was also a well-known raconteur, regaling all who would listen with his “true stories”. Hy enjoyed his last years living independently at Brooksby Village in Peabody.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 10, at 10AM at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin St., Salem. Interment will be held at Temple Beth El Cemetery, Lowell St., Peabody. A reception will follow at Brooksby Village, Peabody. Donations may be made in his name to Congregation Shirat Hayam of the North Shore, 55 Atlantic Ave., Swampscott, MA 01907.
