Ilene Karen Cutler

May 4, 1956February 21, 2021

Ilene Cutler – of Marblehead, entered into rest on February 21, 2021 at the age of 64. Beloved wife of Jonathan Cutler. Fiercely devoted mother of Alyssa Cutler (and Aaron Fleishman) and Hayley Cutler (and Michael Wylie). Cherished grandma of Daniel Fleishman. Loving sister of Dianne Gesserman, dear daughter of the late Al and Gert Eisenberg, and beloved aunt and great aunt to so many nieces and nephews.

Ilene grew up in Winthrop, graduated from Suffolk University, and raised her family in Marblehead, where she was active in volunteering at her daughters’ schools, serving as PTO president for several terms. She worked as an executive in the insurance industry in and around Boston for many years. Upon retiring, she found great enjoyment in learning mahjong and canasta with dear friends, spending time with her beloved Marblehead crew and reconnecting with her Winthrop crew, soaking up all the time she could at the beach in Ogunquit with her husband and friends, and cherishing every moment she got to spend with her children and especially her grandson. She was the Queen of Thanksgiving, cooking up a storm every year for friends and family with lots of love and her famous mac and cheese.

Due to regulations imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic, a private graveside service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Ilene’s memory to the Marblehead Food Pantry, 80 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead, MA 01945.

Ilene was a great friend to my late wife, Diane (and to me). When she died in 2006 , Ilene reached out (along with Deb Field, of course) to me and our daughter, Aubrey, and became a great friend to her. Not so much a mother figure - although I'm sure there was some of that - but as a trusted advisor and friend. Ilene and Aubrey remained in touch with each other over the years, right up to the recent past, as Aubrey grew and became an adult, wife, and mother. Ilene was always there for her. I am eternally grateful that Ilene did this. It was a great comfort to me. Just another story about what a loss we have all suffered.

We have such wonderful fond memories of the most generous, fun-loving, and gracious Glendale Road neighbor anyone could hope for. Jon, Alyssa, and Hayley, we send our love and support to you. Ilene's spirit and kindness were extraordinary, and we hope that you find comfort among your many fans, friends, and family. We miss you all, and will always think of her with a smile.

I am so sorry to hear of Ilene's passing. We met in during the Glover School days when we would hit the PTO with great intentions of making the kids days as perfect as we could. Ilene was always welcoming and smiling. A kind, sweet soul. A deep lost for her family, friends and community. Sending healing prayers to all who feel the pain of her loss so deeply.

To Dianne, and to Ilene's entire family: Ilene is one of the first memories I have of growing up on Underhill Street in Winthrop. I always remembering her smiling and giggling, and so happy and kind. I'm reading some of these comments and see that she was still that same person. This is such sad news. She was too young. My deepest sympathies to Dianne and to Ilene's family.
