The family of Irwin H. Kabler is deeply bereaved to note he passed away in Swampscott, MA on Saturday June 20, 2026 (5 Tamuz 5786). His beloved wife Gladys of 50 years was with him and noted he passed quickly and painlessly.
Irwin was born on May 22, 1935, and was a life-long Bostonian (and also resided in Naples, FL for several years), who called himself a ‘Dorchester Boy’ from his upbringing in a neighborhood full of close family and friends. (Yes, in a ‘triple decker.) He and his boyhood ‘pals’ even wrote a book about their experiences together.
Irwin made the bulk of his career at General Dynamics in its electric boat division and at Polaroid Corporation, retiring as the head of the payroll department. Given his extensive professional experience, he also worked as a consultant in the areas of payroll/benefits and finance.
He was a great fan of Boston sports teams, particularly the Red Sox. He was also an avid athlete himself, with a background as a lifeguard, baseball player, runner, golfer, and tennis player.
Irwin belonged to synagogues in Framingham and Swampscott, MA.
In addition to Gladys Kabler, he will be remembered by his children Philip Kabler (wife Marjorie Baros, grandchildren Ashley Baros-Kabler and Yoel Fainchtein, Allyson Baros-Kabler), Gary Kabler (grandson Jonathan Kabler), Susan Hein (husband Russell), Joy Greenberg (husband Robert, grandchildren Hallie and Ethan, Holden and Nicki), and Philip Pastan (grandchildren Max, Madeline), as well as by many in-laws, cousins, other relatives, and his many, many friends.
Irwin was interred during a graveside service at the Lindwood Cemetery in Randolph, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irwin’s merit to American Jewish Congress or a charity of your choice.
May Irwin’s memory be a blessing. He will be missed by all.
