Dear Crothers and Brill Families,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Jackie and I were assigned as roommates at Officer Training School and we soon became friends. She made those 90 days bearable and taught me the ropes of basic military training.
I remember her getting me up very early one morning to go out by the chow hall where there was a rock. If the rock was your squadron color, you would “salute” it when you passed. I stood guard while Jackie took a can of red spray paint and made that rock red. Later, as our flight marched to breakfast, we were able to call out “Good morning, red rock!” As I recall, that was the only time in our tenure that the rock was red. It wasn't until we graduated that the others found out who had done it. Jackie somewhat ceremoniously handed her ruined, paint-covered military dress gloves to Capt. Nelson, our flight commander.
We graduated as second lieutenants on February 26, 1979. We were then sent off to Transportation Officer technical school at Sheppard Air Force Base where we spent several more weeks together. During that time a huge tornado hit Wichita Falls. This time we both ruined our gloves, but for quite a different cause. Our class made a trip to the former home of one of our instructors and helped him clear off his lot so he could rebuild. We later earned a humanitarian service medal for our work.
Jackie was a generous, smart, loyal person. I feel a great sense of loss. She was loved and she already is missed. May you be comforted by your fond memories of her. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

I was so sorry to read this. Jackie was on a TDY to George AFB back in 1985 or 86. She helped me completely turn my life around. I will never forget her kindness when I was just a lowly Airman who was in pain. I don't know if the girls remember me, they were pretty young, but I babysat them a few times on base. She bought me a bike and glasses.
I lost my husband to cancer in April too. My heart is breaking for your loss.
I have a picture of her and the girls that I run across occasionally when I'm looking through my old photos.
She was a huge blessing in my life. I'm sorry I lost touch with her.

Dear Jackie, I miss you everyday. I will always be grateful for
all your help and inspiration. Our friendship was created out of love for one another, as well as our fight to survive from
our health problems. You will always be in my heart and I will always live by your words, never give up, there is always hope. I love you. Your heart sister, Linda.
