Born in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late Leon J. and Florance (Kaminsky) Sandman. He grew up in Johnstown, PA and was a graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School Class of 1965. He was a graduate of Penn State University and later received his Law Degree from Georgetown University of Law.
He operated his own law practice, The Law Offices of James H. Sandman, served as a College Professor at the Mass. School of Law in Andover, and was also a professional photographer.
James was a well-travelled man who sought out fine arts, culture and foods of the world. An avid street photographer, James had a keen eye for meaningful and spontaneous moments. He took great pride in his work as an attorney and served his clients with great intellect and compassion.
A dedicated family man, James was a hero to his children and grandson. With incredible wit and charm, he loved to make people smile and laugh. He is survived by his three children, Alexander, Jordan and Michaella. He was the brother to Barry Sandman of Indianapolis, IN. Also survived by his grandson, Maddox and two nieces, Lindsay Lefevere and her husband Jeff of Indianapolis, IN and Loran Sandman of Kansas City, MO.
Services at Congregation Ahavas Achim, corner of Washington and Olive Sts. Newburyport on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 2:30PM. Interment following at Newburyport Hebrew Cemetery. Memorial Observance at his late residence following the service and on Wednesday and Thursday from 4-8PM.
