Dr. Joel A Cohen, of Swampscott, MA, and San Raphael, CA, passed away on June 14 at his family home in Swampscott, in the care of his devoted and loving wife, Sara Larsson Cohen. After a PhD in solid state physics, Joel found his passion for biophysics. He spent his career at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, conducting research on membranes, with particular interest in colloidal crystals and vesicles, and teaching courses for dental students in physiology. Later, in 1998, he found his second great passion when he met Sara, the love of his life. Joel will be remembered for his relentless curiosity, his playful spirit, the twinkle in his eye, and his enduring disrespect for time.
