Beloved daughter of the late Rose (Kuperstein) Bloomberg and the late Samuel Bloomberg, and sister of the late Deborah Levett, Judi grew up in Swampscott. She was the biological mother of Samuel James, whom she held in her heart every day.
Judi Rodger was a beloved friend and activist, devoted to establishing, maintaining and sharing connections with others. She spoke publicly about respect and dignity and inclusion for people with disabilities. She encouraged people to speak up. She was a co-founder of Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong (MASS), and a longstanding member of the Brookline group with a similar name, Mass Self-Advocates.
Many thought of Judi as a mentor. She actively encouraged people to vote, and was proud to be an election worker. She was affiliated with many organizations, and served on multiple committees and boards, including the MA Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Human Rights Advisory Committee, DDS Citizen Advisory Board, Statewide Independent Living Council, Disability Policy Consortium, Arc of Mass, MA Developmental Disabilities Council, and others. She loved working as a receptionist at the Greater Boston Arc. She was the 2018 recipient of the Craig Smith Leadership Award.
Judi Rodger loved to travel, and to attend conferences. In 1986 she went to Brazil with Gunnar and Rosemary Dybwad, for an international conference on inclusion. She took many trips with her beloved friend Louise, and loved to go on cruises with her. Judi enjoyed going to casinos, regularly playing bingo, and she belonged to her bowling league for 50 years. She loved a good game of scrabble.
Judi cherished the people in her life, and wanted them to know that she was grateful for their friendship and loved them all. “Love, love, love, everywhere!”
