

Marilyn Anne Freedland, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, and devoted member of her community, passed away at the age of 99.
Born to Sam and Esther (Bloom) Shore, Marilyn grew up in East Boston, where she developed the values of family, hard work, education, and community service that would guide her throughout her life. She was the cherished sister of Alan Shore and his wife, Janet.
Marilyn was the beloved wife of George Freedland, the love of her life. They were married in 1950 and shared 64 wonderful years of marriage until George’s passing in 2014. Together, they built a loving family that remained the center of Marilyn’s life.
She leaves behind her devoted children, Sheryl Weinstein and her husband, Steven, of Milford, and Eric Freedland and his wife, Susan, of Marblehead. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Samantha Worth and her husband, Gaelan; Matthew Weinstein; Joshua Freedland; and Emily (Freedland) Roberson and her husband, Harry. She was also blessed with three treasured great-grandchildren, Lucas, Gavin, and Ryan Worth, who brought her immense joy.
Marilyn graduated from Girls’ High School in Boston and went on to earn her degree from the Boston University School of Education, graduating with honors and as a member of an academic honor society. She dedicated her professional life to teaching, inspiring young students as a first-grade teacher in the Quincy and Revere public school systems.
A woman of deep faith and commitment to Jewish life, Marilyn was an active member of Temple Tifereth Israel of Winthrop for many years. She generously gave her time and talents to numerous organizations, including the temple’s Sisterhood, Hadassah, B’nai B’rith, and the Jewish War Veterans, forming lasting friendships and making meaningful contributions to her community.
Marilyn will be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, kindness, unwavering devotion to family, and ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. Her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured, taught, and inspired.
A funeral service for Marilyn will be held at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin Street, Salem, MA 01970 on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Tifereth Israel of Winthrop Cemetery, 232 Fuller Street, Everett, MA 02149. Following the burial, the family will observe a memorial gathering at the home of Eric and Susan Freedland. the memorial gathering will continue at their home on Thursday, July 30, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity or to the Katzman Family Center for Living.
