Miriam Ostrovitz, 98, a long-time resident of Swampscott, passed away on October 16, 2018 at the Life Care Center of the North Shore, Lynn, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Sidney Ostrovitz with whom she shared 64 years of marriage until his passing in 2004. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Landfield and Gertrude (Katcoff) Landfield. She was the loving sister of the late Harriet Sussman of Salem, MA and dear sister-in-law of the late Melvin Sussman and the late Samuel Ostrovitz. Miriam was also the devoted mother of the late Martin L. Ostrovitz.
She is survived by her dear children, Nina Ostrovitz of Washington, D.C., Greta Ostrovitz of Jerusalem, Israel and Roy Ostrovitz of Playa del Rey, CA, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine and her beloved friend, Louis Gallo of Saugus, MA.
Raised in Revere, MA, Miriam played accordion on Yiddish radio in Boston in the 1930s. As a resident of Swampscott, she was active in Temple Israel serving a term as President of Temple Israel Sisterhood. She also served as a President of Swampscott-Marblehead Hadassah. She was an avid gardener and she loved to sew, making many of her own clothes for years. Later in life, she made dolls, some of which won awards at the Topsfield Fair.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 10:00AM at Shirat HaYam Cemetery, 506 Lowell Street, Peabody, MA.
