

Natalie Needleman Breitman Velleman formerly of Swampscott and Peabody was the wife of the late Harold E. Velleman of Peabody and the late Leonard Breitman of Swampscott, MA. She was the daughter of Rose Freedman Needleman and Philip Needleman, sister of the late Charlotte Needleman Weiner, Beatrice Needleman Kaufman and Sidney Needleman.
Natalie was the mother of Barry Velleman and his companion Janice Plunkett D’Avignon of Marshfield, MA; Alan and Pam Breitman of Sharon, MA; Karen and Harry Byers of Andover, MA; Neal and Maggie Breitman of Stoughton, MA; Phyllis Breitman and Dan Gingras of Rye, NH; the grandmother of Leigh and Doug Hurd, Michelle and Charlie Hipwood, Robin Breitman and Graham Wilson, Stephen and Alison Byers, Billy and Marissa Byers, and the late David Velleman; great-grandmother of Braden, Sienna, Grayson, Zoey, Cameron, Zach, Hannah, Henry and Natalie.
She was born and raised in Chelsea, MA, she attended Boston University and North Shore Community College. Natalie was active in community affairs in Swampscott where she resided until 1986.
Her commitments extended to many leadership roles in Jewish and secular organizations. Natalie was a writer, speaker (long time story teller) and historian. Her passion was specializing in researching her family roots. She published 10 family genealogies that are housed in several libraries throughout the US and Israel.
After spending a lifetime with Natalie and family, her sister Charlotte said “Natalie adored her family’s personalities, sense of humor, kindness, common interests, shared values, love and respect for parent and siblings, but they are not “The Brady Bunch”.” Natalie will forever be in the hearts and memories of those whose lives she touched.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday October 28, 2018 at 3:30 PM in Congregation Shirat Hayam Cemetery, Temple Israel Section, 506 Lowell Street, Peabody, MA. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be donated to the charity of your choice.
