Richard was a proud Marblehead Magician and a varsity basketball letterman. He loved living by the ocean in Marblehead, and although his favorite place was always home, he also enjoyed traveling. His adventures included several visits to the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador and, most recently, a family trip to the Amazon in Peru.
Richard had many passions, including basketball, sports, and animals, but nothing was more important to him than his family. He was well known for his beloved Katz Bagel Bakery in Chelsea, which has been in business for more than 80 years. Richard had a special gift for making friends wherever he went and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Richard was the beloved husband of Lynn, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Jennifer and her husband, John; Jeremy; and the late Jimmy, beloved husband of Olga. He was the cherished grandfather of Hayden and Brendon and the loving brother of Barbara and her husband, Arthur, of Dallas, Texas.
Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to MSPCA at Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01907, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
