Le Fleur, Shirley E. – After 85 wonderful years died at home, surrounded by her loving family, on June 30, 2012. Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Delmore (Bud) LeFleur. She was proud of her husband’s military service, flying 35 combat missions in World War II as a radio operator and tail gunner in B-17’s with the USAAF.
Shirley started her career after high school and worked as a book keeper until she was 84 in October 2011 (but regretted that she did not retire sooner, in September 2011). Later in life she made many friends at the Salem Senior Center. Community service was important to her and she was a volunteer at Salem Hospital, and participated in the Cancer Walk almost every year since 1991, missing only two years. Her faith was another cornerstone of her life and she was a member of Temple Shalom, a lifetime member of the Temple Shalom Sisterhood, and past president of B’nai B’rith.
Shirley was the devoted mother of: Alan LeFleur, Sr. and his wife Katherine, of Fremont, NH; Heidi Huttunen and her husband John of Rockport; Sandy LeFleur of Salem; and Lori Carney and her husband Stephen of Mystic, CT; mother-in-law of the late Dan Hart; loving sister of Edward Gold and his wife Bidda of Sterling, VA. Cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren (Alan LeFleur, Jr., Michele Doyle, Christopher LeFleur, Jeremy Huttunen, Daniel LeFleur, and Madeline, Olivia, and Charlotte Carney) and 14 great grandchildren.
