Sonia K. Sternberger – of Peabody, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Harold Sternberger. Devoted mother of Ellyn Murphy and her husband David of Atkinson, NH and Wayne Sternberger and his wife Sharon of Highland, MD. The loving sister of the late Harvey Kagan. Dear daughter of the late David and Clarice (Gelbstein) Kagan. Adoring aunt to many nieces and nephews and their families.

Sonia grew up in Brooklyn, graduated from New York University, and raised her family on Long Island. She then moved to New Jersey and Florida before settling in Massachusetts. She studied to be a social worker and did that briefly until she changed her career to computer programming. Sonia was a dedicated member of Hadassah, B’nai B’rith Women and was on the Board of Directors of the Mid Island YM-YWHA. She was the consummate volunteer wherever she lived giving many hours to causes and groups she supported. Sonia loved to dance, bake and entertain, research and document the genealogy of her family, and to vacation in remote places with Harold. She cherished her time spent with family, friends, and respected colleagues.

Services for Sonia will be private.
