Emigrating from Odessa, Ukraine in the former Soviet Union in the mid-1970s, Sonya came to the U.S. with her husband Izya and son Roman in search of a brighter future.
Sponsored by the Jewish Family Services organization who helped many Soviet Jews emigrate and resettle in the U.S. during the 1970s and beyond, Sonya and her family were able to settle and establish their home in Lynn, MA. She was eternally grateful to that organization for all their wonderful and generous support during that time.
In her youth, Sonya studied gymnastics and was devoted to staying fit her whole life. Having grown up and lived by the Black Sea, Sonya came to love the North Shore of Boston and enjoyed taking long walks every day with her favorite dogs Charlie and Ralph along the boardwalk on the waterfront in the Lynn, Swampscott and Nahant area.
A dedicated wife and mother, Sonya is pre-deceased by her husband Izya to whom she was married for over 55 years. Her loving son Roman survived her by just one day and sadly passed away after a long illness. Sonya is survived by her sister Rosa Tragor, and by her son Roman’s wife of 45 years Michelle K. Gershkovich.
Funeral services will be private at this time.
