SILBERT, STANLEY NORMAN of Sherman Oaks, CA; formerly of Cambridge, MA. Entered into rest February 9, 2012 at the age of 84 years. He passed away quickly, peacefully and painlessly surrounded by family and listening to his favorite tunes. Stan was born in 1927 in Chelsea, MA to Shirley (Roth) and Harry Silbert, M.D. He grew up in Salem, MA and attended Salem High School and Lawrence Academy, where he was a standout athlete who demonstrated “the valor of the little man.” After serving his country in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II, he graduated with honors from Harvard College (Class of ’48) and Harvard Business School (Class of ’55). He rose through the corporate ranks, ultimately becoming Financial Vice President for Suburban Ostomy, Inc., a wholesale pharmaceutical supply company. At the age of 62, he made the choice to forgo future financial gains and retired to enjoy his life in the heart of Cambridge. He loved music, particularly big band jazz, and was a regular at the local clubs. He frequented lectures and athletic events, and reveled in the vibrancy of nearby Harvard Square. He was a Celtics season ticket holder throughout their 1980s reign of supremacy. And, he assembled a world class collection of baseball cards. But his greatest passion was reserved for his three sons. He was a humble man, whose intelligence, gentle nature and self-deprecating humor endeared him to those he met. He was the beloved and devoted father of Matthew Silbert and his wife Kathleen Curry of North Hollywood, CA; Stephen Silbert and his wife Jennifer Percy of Salem, MA and Tony Silbert and his wife Leah of Woodland Hills, CA. Loving brother of the late Janis Weiss, brother-in-law of Edward Weiss of Cresskill, NJ. Cherished grandfather of Stella and Bram Silbert of Woodland Hills, CA. Dear uncle of Peter and Judi Weiss. Valued ex-husband of Muriel Levy of Palm Coast, FL. Services at North Russell Street Shul Cemetery, Everett on Tuesday, February 14, at 11:00 A.M. Following the interment family and friends are invited to gather at the home of Stephen Silbert and Jennifer Percy. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Stanley’s memory may be made to the Harmony Project, 817 Vine Street, Suite 212, Los Angeles, CA 90038 (www.harmony-project.org), which provides disadvantaged youth the opportunity to make the music Stan loved so much.
