Today many of the sculptures and paintings that adorn the campus, were the result of his fundraising efforts and relationships with various artists.
Mr. Young proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. After gaining experience as a motion picture salesman for Warner Brothers, Mr. Young embarked on a very successful career as an entrepreneur and later in his career as a financier. While there are too many companies to name, some of the more notable ones were Chelsea Industries, one of the first companies to introduce plastic to the United States, SAY Industries, an innovator in consumer packaging that was responsible for changing how motor oil was packaged from the composite can to today’s plastic funnel top quart container. He will forever be remembered as a handsome, charismatic, confident, larger than life figure who loved putting together business deals, collecting art, playing scratch tickets, laughing with friends and family and eating Chinese food.
