Aaron Boyd Marshall was born August 13, 1970 in Portland, OR. He passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022 in his home in Salem, OR. He is survived by his parents, Rodney and Kathleen Marshall of Salem, and his brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Daylene Marshall, also of Salem. The family moved throughout his life, so he would attend school in Oregon, Idaho, Tennessee, and finally Oregon again, where he would graduate from Sprague High School in Salem. He had a head for math, earning a scholarship to Oregon State University.
Aaron would have said his greatest accomplishment was becoming an Eagle Scout. He would pass along that legacy for many years as a Boy Scout leader.
Growing up, Aaron enjoyed playing baseball and was given the nickname “Hank” by his teammates. Aaron was an overcomer. He was diagnosed with epilepsy at an early age, yet was not defined by that challenge. He overcame multiple occurrences of melanoma as well as colon cancer. He had an exceptional work ethic, regularly becoming the most trusted and reliable person wherever he worked. In his years as a store manager, he would work well beyond the hours required of him and would often pay the difference out of his own pocket if a customer was in need. Aaron was devoted and loyal to those close to him. He fostered friendships from childhood, keeping up old-fashioned correspondence with friends and family via cards and letters. He carried the mantle of family genealogist, believing in the importance of family and knowing your roots. He loved history and making family connections. He was a collector of family artifacts, holding onto pictures, mementos, and various pieces of history. Aaron enjoyed traveling and collected patches from the various places he visited.
Aaron was quick to laugh, loving to recount the many humorous stories of a shared past. He remembered details most others forgot. Times spent around a board game or playing Pinochle were probably his favorites as he could be competitive without ever losing his good nature. Most importantly, Aaron was a person of faith, which he carried with him from an early age. He was baptized at Long Creek Christian Church, August 12, 1980. He would celebrate his “spiritual birthday” every year. Over his life, he served in various roles within the church. He was gifted with a gentle, generous, and trusting spirit. All who knew Aaron will miss him. A Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 19th at Turner Christian Church.
