Salem - Al graduated HS in North Bend in 1963. He excelled at wrestling, and won the Heavy Weight Championship. Al also played football and received the "All-Around Athlete Award". In 1966, Al started training in martial arts, he is accomplished in Judo, Jujitsu, Karate and Aikido and holds many black belt degrees. He taught martial arts at Willamette University, Chemeketa Community College, YMCA classes, numerous women's self defense classes and defensive tactic seminars to the Salem Police Dept. He has over 40 years of martial arts training.
Al is survived by son, David Elfstrom, MT; and daughter, Cheryl Elfstrom, WA. Grandkids, Kelly Elfstrom and wife, Whittany and Amber, MT. Sisters, Gail Ramberg and Janice Emmons; and nieces and nephews, Wendy, Steve, Trisha, Ed and Shawnee all residing in Oregon; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.
