Ann "Annie" (Carter) Mulkey
July 24, 1923 – January 12, 2021
Ann “Annie” Carter Mulkey passed away on January 12 at the age of 97.
Her parents, Thomas and Pauline Carter, raised her as the eldest daughter of eleven children in Portland and Gresham, Oregon. In 1944, Ann married her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Mulkey. She was his loving support as Bob attended seminary, and entered full time ministry as a pastor in the Christian Church. During those years, they welcomed their five children: Carol, Paul, John, Anna Jo and Jay. Through the 68 years of their marriage, Bob and Ann served churches in Medford OK, Dayton OR, Portland OR, Bend OR; Bozeman MT, Eugene OR; and Salem OR at Court Street Christian Church (1968~1989). Ann was a wonderful mother and homemaker. We remember her as someone who readily gave affection and affirmation.
Ann dedicated her life to Jesus Christ as a young woman, and loved deep study of the Bible. She was devoted to her husband and family throughout her life, and was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ann loved music and had a beautiful, clear, high soprano voice. She sang in many church choirs and in her retirement years sang with Salem’s Just For Fun Singers.
We will remember Ann’s green thumb, her famous spaghetti dinners, her ready smile, her passion for reading, and her infectious laugh, and love for people.
Ann worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Salem for many years. After retiring, Bob and Ann spent almost four years teaching Bible in Indonesia at what is now Mountainview Christian School. Ann served as the librarian, the perfect position for her given her love of books and children.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Carol Greenfield (Chuck); son John Mulkey (Marilyn); daughter Anna “Jo” Bunch (Roy); and son Jay Mulkey (Sue). Grandma Mulkey will be missed by her eight grandchildren (Jamie, Aubry, Jennifer, Molly, Aaron, Mike, Britt and Lauren), and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Robert “Bob”, and son, Paul. During Ann’s life, countless individuals were touched by her love of Christ, her sweet nature, joyful spirit, and kind heart.
We grieve her loss, but rejoice that she is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her husband Bob, and her son, Paul. Our deepest gratitude goes to the loving caregivers at Turner Retirement Home and French Prairie Nursing and Rehabilitation.
