

Avis Espe was born in Kanawha, Iowa in 1923 to parents Florence and Henry Espe. Avis moved with her family to North Howell, Oregon in 1937 at age 13 and quickly made friends at Silverton High School where she was active in basketball, acting in school plays, and on the shorthand team.
Avis married Jerome (Jeep) Epping in 1944 while Jeep was stationed in San Diego, serving in the Navy. After Jeep’s military service, they returned to make their home in Salem, Oregon, where they raised their four children.
Avis was very creative and the maker of many beautiful things. From knitting, to sewing and painting, floral arranging and crafts, her home was always lovely. She was active in her church, loved to bowl, golf, and played bridge for many years.
Avis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jeep, son Denny, daughter-in-law Pat, and sisters Aradine, Darlene, and Amy.
Avis is survived by her son Doug, daughters Kristi (Bernard) and Julie (Doug), daughter-in-law Jan, brother Gary (Carolyn), 7 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00pm on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Belcrest Memorial Park 1295 Browning Avenue S, Salem, Oregon 97302
