She was born in San Rafael, California on July 18, 1927, to Lester and Bessie Ryan. After graduating high school, Barbara attended Los Angeles City College. She did office work for the State of Oregon. Barbara enjoyed crossword puzzles, table games, and reading.
Barbara is survived by her grandchildren, John Loika, George Loika, and Peter Loika. Both of Barbara's children and her husband, Norman Hokkanen, preceded her in death.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Salem Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. She will be laid to rest in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.
