Billie Marie Sauer, 104, of Salem, Oregon, passed away on August 31, 2021. She was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa on December 28, 1916, and married Robert Sauer on July 11, 1937, in Mason City, Iowa. They were married, until his death in 1995.
Though a homemaker most of her life, during World War II, she was an electrician wiring baby flattop escort aircraft carriers in Vancouver, WA. Then, after moving to Salem in 1949, she held various book keeping jobs including Camp Fire Girls and her husband’s business.
Billie was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and had a passion for gardening, animals, crossword puzzles, and writing poetry.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Bates and Mike Sauer, both of Salem, Oregon, Dave Sauer (Raquel), West Jordan, Utah, Jo Cottle (Royce), Woodinville, Washington; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
Billie made friends everywhere and everyone loved to hug her.
