Carla died on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Salem Hospital after suffering a rare and previously undiagnosed brain illness. Her early passing has left her beloved husband, Paul M. Ferder, and her family profoundly grief stricken.
Carla was born on February 9, 1953, in Salem, Oregon to Dorothy Neuharth-French and Leonard French. Both parents preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, Paul Ferder, Carla is survived by her five sisters, Cynthia Olsen (Patrick Price), Linda McGiven (George McGiven), Laurie Fischer (Ed Fischer), Monica Weeder (John Weeder), Mary French (Douglas Niwa), her two stepsons, Darin and Jagon Ferder, their wives and children, several nieces and nephews, and numerous relatives and friends.
Carla graduated from McNary High School in Salem in 1971. She attended business school and later graduated from Linfield University before attending law school. After graduating from Willamette University Law School in 1996, Carla became a successful attorney and will be remembered as a tireless advocate for all she served, excelling as an attorney to juvenile clients and adopting families. She also served as a Marion County Circuit Court Judge Pro Tem before returning to private practice. Carla was and remains an inspiration to many as a mentor who always encouraged education. Her intellect and level of class is unmatched.
Carla loved to read, and enjoyed taking long walks with her husband Paul, spending time with her grandchildren, and going shopping with her sisters. She loved to entertain, was an excellent and creative cook, and always made her guests feel special and welcome in her home. She was an accomplished florist, providing beautiful arrangements for weddings and special occasions. Carla loved the holidays, and her family members and friends will notice less glow this Christmas as Carla was known for her elegant decorating. Carla was a loving and beautiful woman who will be missed by so many.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the physicians and all medical personnel at Salem Hospital for their expertise and compassionate care. In particular, the nurses in the ICU who tended Carla so lovingly have our profound gratitude.
A private family gathering, and celebration of life are pending.
