Charles Ivan Nicoloff peacefully passed away at home on August 14, 2022. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 7, 1945. He lived in Chicago until moving with his family to Hollywood, California in 1961.
Charlie graduated from Hollywood High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Woodbury University. On December 2, 1967 he married Martha JoAnne Weber. Their children, Laurie and Jeff, were born in California. In 1976, the family moved to Salem. Charlie spent his career in finance and insurance working for both the State of California and the State of Oregon. He retired from his position as Deputy Administrator with the Department of Consumer and Business Services in 2002. He was a member of the Society of Financial Examiners.
Charlie's biggest passion was for his family and he loved spending time with his five grandchildren. He was a generous and devoted papa, father and husband. He enjoyed nostalgia and all things related to outer space. As an avid Disney fan, he would often imitate Donald Duck for the amusement of his family and friends. Part of his daily routine was keeping up with the stock market. Charlie was always ready for a poker game, a skill he learned from his parents. A whiz with numbers, he enjoyed sharing his financial expertise with family and friends; advising those who asked for his guidance.
Charlie enjoyed shopping and was a big fan of Costco, saying, “If Costco doesn't have it, you don't need it.” Charlie also loved his two Bichon Frises, Bella (deceased) and Maisie who will miss her daily “Papa treats”.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Laurie Phelps and grandchildren Madison Melgard and Asa Phelps; son Jeff Nicoloff and grandchildren Hayden, Gwenyth and Ethan Nicoloff; and Jeff's fiancé, Elsa Navarro and her children Junior, Joel and Elijah. He is also survived by his brother, Robert, wife Martha and their son Michael.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 27th at 2pm followed by a reception at Howell Edwards Doerksen with Rigdon Ransom Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Dornbeckers Children Hospital or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
