David was born in Oregon City to Don I. and Harriet J. McKennan., who preceded him in death. He graduated from South Salem High School in 1962 and from Linfield College in 1967. David married
Catherine Dueber in 1970 and divorced in 1983. He was a member of the Oregon Army Reserves until 1972. David belonged to the Masonic Lodge. He worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation and the U. S. Postal Service.
He is survived by his children Barron J. and Karen S. McKennan of Keizer; uncles Malcolm Herd of Salem and David Herd of Oregon City and aunt Joanne (Jack) Engel of Fremont, Nebraska, and many cousins.
David loved reading, writing and hiking and will be missed by his family and many friends.
