Dennis Vernon Schirman

March 4, 1950January 29, 2020

Dennis Vernon Schirman was born in Salem, Oregon on March 4, 1950 to George and Elsie Schirman. He was the youngest of four brothers. He graduated from Salem High School and attended Chemeketa Community College where he received a graduate degree. When he was about 20 years old, he was involved in an automobile accident that resulted in multiple injuries which impaired his ability to walk, talk and do meaningful work. He struggled with those injuries the rest of his life but always maintained a positive outlook because of his deep faith in God. Dennis faithfully attended the West Hills Community Church and was well known by the church congregation.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 10th from 12-5 pm at Howell Edwards Doerksen Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Belcrest Memorial park.

A Memorial Service will be held at the West Hills Community Church, 1650 Brush College Dr. NW, at 2:30 PM on February 13, 2020. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to a memorial fund established by the church in Dennis’s honor.

When I moved to Salem in 1965, I rented a room from Aunt Elsie and Dennis for seven months. Dennis had a learner's permit, and could drive if an older licensed driver [me] were with him. As I recall, he and Reinhart enjoyed going to Bob's for 19-cent hamburgers. Good memories.
